Have you ever wondered about what happens when you try to belong to the Universe, to be one with everything? Follow your path to your limit and develop yourself fully and become almost superhuman?
I don’t know. How would I? I am not superhuman. There have only been a few select people who accomplished such a thing. Right? Hell, I’m not even sure of all the names that could claim such a feat; there are an undying plethora of names and titles. Every belief system has one or more. How does one begin calculating the odds of achieving such a thing?
Hmmm.
Is that the way your mind wants to approach such a thing? My mind doesn’t work that way. I don’t look at that kind of problem like that. I ask myself, does treating life like a game with an ultimate winner feel right, with everyone racing to stand atop a mountain of achievement? Who then are we competing against, other belief systems? Is that magical summit of achievement the true test? Is that all there is a few select winners? Emphasis on few.
What I envision barely presents a shadow over the description above. Yes, the ultimate levels I’ve talked about might appear, but it depends greatly upon the individual’s life path. Those grand and glorious positions would in no way be something that fits everyone’s development. To me, it makes more sense to be something else. And as always, let me remind you, nothing ever decreed life conditions must pass before me so I can declare their correctness. That would be ridiculous. I suppose what makes sense to my mind may not make sense to you. You are welcome to my viewpoint if you agree. Please feel free to junk it if it sounds like nonsense.
It makes more sense that all people are not suited to guide, teach, and explain the inner workings of the self through the Universe. I do believe that there is an enlightenment for each of us when we come to that level of understanding. However, that enlightenment would match the line of growth of each personality. Also, that enlightenment should connect with a solid understanding of the harmony one finds within the self. Self-development.
At what level would you excel? It could be parenting, or leadership, understanding of human nature, perhaps integration with the surrounding ecology. There are many paths. The growth experienced by any personality would be the outside limit of the harmony found inside you. Every path should be available, and the limit to them should be along the lines of ad infinitum. With each step forward, individuals become more adept at the knowledge and skills needed to understand both themselves and the Universe around them which increases their fulfillment. The more development that occurs, the more decisive the understanding.
After all, it is simply a matter of greater relaxation into the understanding of everything around you. As the progression marches along, an exquisite peace of mind comes into being, the same mindset famously displayed in the wise teachings of many people who “have it together“ and whom we take to heart. Why shouldn’t it?
It is that understanding of life that presents one with a calmness of spirit with which a person can enjoy life even though troubled waters buffet them.
We have all known those people who nothing shakes. I remember one of the best managers I ever worked for. He was unflappable, no matter what happened, regardless of the catastrophe swirling around us. He was like the eye of a hurricane. I asked him once how he did it. His answer? “I do it by reminding myself that it is impossible to decide things correctly if I panic.”
I accepted that at face value at the time. But as time passed, I came to believe that the man functioned best because he did not panic. That lack of alarming consternation left him free to be his best, not by forcing himself to be his best in order to be calm.
Does that sound confusing? I don’t think it should. It was his calmness that let him to be at his best, not the byproduct of being at his best that enabled him to control himself. There is a subtle difference. Can you understand it?
It is the personality’s ability to relax when the storm rolls through that truly helps. That is how development happens. One must learn to relax while traveling through difficulties, let the troubles and harmonics of life flow through, connect with the Universe, and feel the correct path that lies there. Capabilities enhance only after development takes place.
Do you think it is by accident that young people mature only after the tough times slap them right in the nose. Up until that time, the parents shielded the youth against the outlandish. But eventually, either the youth leaves, gets kicked out, or trauma sneaks through the parental barrier and pounds them. Then, voilá, they begin to grow.
Coincidentally, the maturation of youth happens about the time when their parents suddenly become smarter. The parents have been seen as ignorant for the last ten years, when the teenager or young adult thinks they know everything. It is a natural order. If you don’t know what I’m talking about here, give it a few years. You’ll know about it then. Certainly, that knowledge will come when your kids think of you as an idiot.
This naturalness is integral when learning about the inner-self and spiritual development. Only when one’s trials beat you up do you have a chance to see the light. The explanation can come in various ways, but the gut feeling doesn’t happen until you’ve won your battle and able to review the dissonant harmonies within you resolve into consonance. The growth you experience depends on how well you know yourself, and how well you fit in the harmonics of the Universe.
Yes, it is a circle of living. There always seems to be yet another step.
The paramount thing to remember is love, and there is no sidestepping it. If acceptance of yourself combines with the love for those around you, then traveling through life becomes streamlined and more productive. Then, along the way you will begin to appreciate yourself even more. That is a definite wonder of life, for without that oneness with yourself, one cannot find togetherness with the Universe.
How enlightened are you? Give it a chance. I think you are farther along than you give yourself credit.

I like this. So well said.
I often say that “I am partially enlightened, some of the time.” 🙂 For some people, enlightenment is like a light that is either on or off – and when the light comes on, it stays on forever. That’s not my experience. For me, enlightenment is like a light on a dimmer switch, that glows brighter at some times than others, and oscillates in luminosity a lot.
Excellent comment, Paul. I always view you as the most enlightened one I know. I always learn things when I talk with you.
